Status of the Black Bass Fishery in Lake Mead and a Program Toward Restoration and Enhancement

This report is a summary of information gathered in the five year study. The objectives of the study included; evaluating what factors were responsible for the decline in the fishery and whether this loss in production was related to recruitment; analyzing how water levels could be manipulated to improve the fishery; and determining if artificial enhancement, alone or in combination with water level manipulations could be used to restore the fishery to 1959 levels. Bass nesting success was monitored and correlated with water level fluctuations and cover. The effect of water level fluctuations on food and cover conditions for young bass was also investigated.
