The Marine Railway, Charleston Naval Shipyard, Charleston Massachusetts is a docking facility 653 feet long, 42 feet wide with a 352-foot-long cradle. Constructed in 1919, the Marine railway was used thoughout this century in repairs of ships ranging from the navy yard tugs to submarines. This report presents the architectural background of the structure as it relates to the construction and maintenance of the facility.
