Intelligent Robot Grinding System (February 15, 1986-February 14, 1987)

The goals of the project were to determine the research issues and engineering requirements for constructing and operating intelligent automated systems. The first part of the project developed a grinding system that was used to test the model derived. The second part of the project refined the mathematical model of the system. Included in the report are the following chapters: the theoretical derivation of the grinding model and the associated simulator; a detailed discussion of the hardware and software developed to experimentally verify the model of the grinding process; the methods that were used in the determining the system constants which were used in the simulator; an overview of the major operational procedures for the experimental hardware and software; the analysis of the experimental results, including a comparison of the experimental results to those expected by the process model; and the major conclusions and recommendations.
