摘要

The Framingham Heart Study has followed a sample of 2336 men and 2873 women in 1948 who where residents of the town of Framingham, Massachusetts and were ages 30 to 62 at their first examination. A routine clinic examination was repeated at two-year intervals consisting of a medical history, physical examination, blood chemistries, body measurements, vital capacity, chest x-ray, and an electrocardiogram. Mortality and cardiovascular morbidity were documented in detail from these routine exams as well as hospital records, death certificates, physician records, and next-of-kin. By the means a wide variety of information has been collected which includes the characteristics of the study cohort both before and after the development of cardiovascular disease, as well as a standardized clinical evaluation of changes in their cardiovascular status. The monograph is to report the relationship between measures recorded sporadically over the first 30 years of follow-up and the development of cardiovascular disease and death in the Framingham study group.
