摘要

The book sets forth the history of the first eight years of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. It begins by explaining the purpose of Congress in creating the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit by examination of the legislative history of the Federal Courts Improvement Act of 1982. It gives biographies and pictures of all judges. The interchange of judges is then set forth. Also described is the vital work of the Office of the Clerk, the Library, the Administrative Services Office, the Office of the Senior Technical Assistant, and the Office of Motions Staff Attorney. The activities of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the Advisory Committee on Rules, and the Federal Circuit Judicial Conference are explained and summarized. The history would not be complete without a look at the substantive work of the Federal Circuit on the cases and controversies brought before it on appeal from a wide variety of trial tribunals. Representative cases are cited to reflect the types of issues treated by the Federal Circuit in its early years. The appendices have been prepared to show the active and senior judges who constituted the original court in 1982; subsequent appointments; the years when some took senior status, retired, or were deceased; and a table showing the lines of succession.
