摘要

The Listening Partners Program examined the intellectual and ethical development of rural, isolated, impoverished mothers of children under 7 years of age. It investigated the relationship between these characteristics and the women's self-esteem, social support, and parenting strategies, and the development of the women's preschool-age children. The project implemented and evaluated a preventive intervention that provided women opportunities for sustained, high quality dialogue with peers. These experiences were designed to promote the women's intellectual and ethical development, thereby supporting the development of constructive parenting concepts and strategies that, in turn, have been associated empirically with fostering child cognitive and socioemotional development.
