Supercritical-Fluid Chromatography in Packed and Open-Tubular Columns.

The intermediate position of SFC between GC and LC is nicely reflected in the choice of the column type. In GC, the majority of the applications is performed on open-tubular columns, whereas LC is almost exclusively carried out on packed columns. After a period of intense debate on which column type is most suitable for SFC, the consensus is now reached that both column types have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. It is the objective of this thesis to overcome some of the still existing practical problems in SFC and to increase the knowledge of various fundamental aspects of SFC in packed and open-tubular columns.
