Ways of choosing point contacts by which a body may be supported, to allow specific kinematic freedom or restraint are developed. Methods of arriving at suitable contacts for the formation of a basis of contacts, and for the generation of an algebraically-closing contact are given. Examples of the complete restraint of a cube; of the synthesis of a helical pair; and of the sythesis of a cylindric pair are outlined. In each case, the state of kinematic restraint is presented.
