摘要

The combination of a prism and a reflection polariscope provided with a Babinet-Soleil compensator is shown to be a simple solution for the problem of separation of the principal strains in photoelastic coatings. The prisms should have glass with a large index of refraction, dimensions adapted to the coating thickness, a rooftop angle 90 deg, and the rooftop blocked for light in order to see only the coating area of interest just under the rooftop.
