Interstellar Proteins and the Discovery of a New Interstellar Absorption Feature at lambda = 2800A

The ultraviolet absorption spectra of three early-type stars were examined in order to detect the presence of biochemical material in interstellar matter. Excess absorption (over graphite) at 2800A is consistent with significant concentrations of tryptophan in the absorbing grains.
