Open Loop Control of a Control Surface Actuation System and Its Application to the Control of a Torpedo

摘要

A mathematical model of a torpedo control surface actuation system was used to study whether the control surfaces can be reliably and accurately controlled, for time periods 1 min, by the on-board digital computer, without rotor position feedback, i.e., open-loop control. Development of this model shows that, for a perfectly made actuator, stable and accurate control can be maintained. However, introduction of imperfections into the system show that although stable response was maintained, accuracy is significantly decreased. To demonstrate the effect these have on the performance of the torpedo, a torpedo model was developed to include this open loop actuation system. The results show that stable, accurate control is possible.
