摘要

A precise measurement of the most probable ionization loss by pions in BGO was performed in the momentum range 2 to 50 GeV/c. The corresponding average energy losses are derived from these measurements. The results agree with theoretical predictions with the error of measurement, which is generally less than or = 0.5 percent statistically, with an overall systematic error of + or - 2 percent. The results obtained for pions can be easily converted to get the dEa/dx of muons in BGO and are of particular importance to monitor the calibration stability in situ of the final L3 electromagnetic calorimeter.
