摘要

Texture of materials describes the orientation of crystallites produced by physical or chemical processes. Texture becomes important when physical properties of materials vary with the crystallographic directions. Texture analysis of the surfaces of materials using X-ray diffraction is described. The concept of texture is briefly discussed, and the measurement of X-ray pole figures is described. The more advanced treatment of the Crystallite Orientation Distribution Function (CODF) to describe texture is introduced, with mention of the mathematical treatment involved. A further application of the CODF is in the evaluation of complete physical property tensors for polycrystalline samples. An example is given of measured pole figures, subsequent CODF analysis and use of the CODF coefficients to calculate a physical property tensor.
