A theoretical ramjet model for calculation purposes is described. The model isused for performance calculations on a supersonic flight vehicle (Mach numbers between 3 and 7). The forces and moments in the ramjet have to be determined for these performance calculations. The engine forces and moments are determined from flow conditions ascertained at characteristic planes within the engine. The conditions applied and assumptions used are described. It is important to clarify which forces are specific to the engine and which forces are specific to the flight body, a process referred to as 'bookkeeping'. Estimates of the order of value of the factors influencing the ramjet engine are made. The computer program produced for the work permits parameter variations which provide insight into the relationships and interactions of the individual parameters.
