In order to accurately determine the position of the stagnation point in different zones along the leading edge of a sail of a sailboat, a system comprises series (S1-S5) of pressure sensors (16) distributed from and other of the leading edge (14) and virtually forming patterns (M1-M5) spaced from each other in the form of simple polygonal lines, and a computer (20) connected to the pressure sensors. The calculator determines, along each of the patterns, a respective stagnation point position, defined by a curvilinear abscissa (a1-a5) for which a pressure P * interpolated from pressure measurements provided by the pressure sensors of the corresponding series is maximum, and by an altitude (z1-z5), evaluated from respective altitude data of the pressure sensors of the corresponding series determined from positions of the pressure sensors and the orientation of the sailboat.
