Mechanical Compression of Vapour Applied to Evaporators in the Chemical Industry

As a result of recent changes in energy costs, evaporators employing mechanical compression of vapor, which were regarded as a luxury just five years ago, have now become competitive. Comparison with multiple-effect evaporators demonstrates the advantages of this process from the energy standpoint. It is shown how the KESTNER Company has overcome the difficulties encountered in particular applications in the chemical industry, and some recommendations are given on the operating conditions of the vapor compressor.
