The PGlMS night-vision goggle (NVG) was compared to more modern NVGs on visualacuity and vehicle detection. Visual acuity was measured over a large range, covering all relevant light levels. When possible, the percentage of nights a NVG yields sufficient resolution to perform a task was calculated, using the statistical distribution of nighttime light levels in The Netherlands. The more modern NVGs can be used in up to 50% more of the nights for target detection. Suggestions are made for possible further use of the PGlMS NVGs.
