Challenge of 21st Century Leadership: The Cornerstone and Future Building Blocks

The challenge of 21st century leadership is to reinforce ethical principles andbehavior within the profession of arms. Robust individual and institutional development of ethical standards is the responsibility of all who take the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Two ethical imperatives that air commanders must concentrate on are air discipline and realistic training. Air commanders have an ethical responsibility to always 'keep the tip of the spear razor sharp,' while continually preparing themselves and their followers to make the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation. Additionally, the responsibility to defend America carries with it the imbedded challenge of serving as an honorable example of what is right with America. The challenge of the 21st century Air Force leader is to be someone that the American people can trust.
