The expressed mRNA messages and tertiary structures of 900 Protein Data Bank (PDB) proteins were collected in order to establish a database capable of providing an answer to the question of whether aspects of protein messages arising from differential use of sub-codes within the genetic code do or do not positively correlate with aspects of protein tertiary structure. Preliminary (first-year) analyses of these messages and structures indicate that it may be possible to correlate certain 'seed' primary structure subsequences (amino acid residue strings) with the extremities (beginnings and ends) of tertiary structure sub-assemblies defined as sequences of secondary structure units (e.g. , 'helix-turn-sheet-turn', 'turn-sheet-turn-helix', etc.).
