摘要

Six conical sections, each connecting two cylindrical shells of different diameters, were subjected to external hydrostatic pressure. The cone angle, shell thickness, and cone-cylinder reinforcement were varied to determine their effects on strains and collapse pressures. Good correlation was obtained between calculated and measured strains. Study of the measured and theoretical strains indicated that, for the range investigated, reinforcement at the cone-cylinder junctures should have little effect on the collapse strength of the conical sections. The observed collapse pressures, although affected by fabrication imperfections, lend support to this contention. (Author)
