Several years of experimentation in processing microscopic images on emulsion-coated glass discs have shown that the common technique involving tank immersion does not yield the most satisfactory results. When the size of animage begins to approach the resolution of the emulsion itself, foreign particles the same order of magnitude in size as the single image must be kept from the end product. The large volume, open tank system with its higher probability of "dirt" particles is not compatible with this goal.
