BANACOBRE – SANDOZ Control of Sigatoka-An Experiment in Columbia

A trial for control of Sigatoka disease, carried out in 1963 in the banana growing district of Sta Marta, Columbia, is described.nExperimental evidence shows the treatments, using the cuprous oxide preparations BANACOBRE OL and BANACOBRE MZ in an oil-water suspension, biologically - fungicidal effectiveness, influence on yield - equal to the standard maneb-oil-water treatment.nAverage bunch weight and average number of hands per bunch were not significantly improved by the admixture of urea to the spray suspension or the use of a cuprous oxide preparation containing the trace elements zinc and manganese.
