studies in shrews, supported the hypothesis that tenrecs echolocate. Plastic tubes were glued into the ears of 12 tenrecs. Plugging the tubes with cotton resulted in the tenrecs' inability to find a platform onto which they were previously trained to jump. Empty tubes glued in the ears had no effect on their ability to find the platform.
