This was due to the employment by industry of Tsigler-Natt type catalysts for the polymerization of alpha-olefins. Complex polymerization catalysts of such type include alkyl compounds of zinc, aluminum, sodium and halogen ides of transient metals, above all of titanium. The reaction between components leads to a halogen-alkyl exchange in the titanium atom and is accompanied by the reduction of tetravalent titanium to compounds of lower valence.
