This project is concerned with the study of various nonequilibirum processes, specifically those that can be conducted at a steady rate. New experimental data are interpreted on the basis that the properties of terminal stationary states will define the steady flow of heat, mass, and/or volume across a gradient region.nA major point of emphasis is that experimental unknowns are lumped into a clealy defined gradient region so that data correlation can be established by properties of well-defined terminal regions. This is different from usual kinetic and heat-transfer approaches in which temperature gradients pose a serious problem when experimental verification is required on a microscopic basis. Surface temperature in accommodation experiments are a good example.nThe status of the program is reviewed, and a list of major accomplishments and publications to date is given.
