摘要

An electric arc held stationary by a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the arc axis against a gas flowing in the plane orthogonal to the arc axis is analyzed theoretically. The arc is assumed sufficiently long for a uniform column to exist where a two-dimensional analysis (in the plane of the gas flow) of the problem is adequate. The Reynolds number of the flow is taken to be small. The technique of asymptotic matching introduced by S. Kaplun is used to calculate the distribution over the entire two-dimensional plane of the quantities of interest, e.g., the temperature and velocity. (Author)
