Effects of Infection on Nutritional Status and Immunity

摘要

Infectious diseases cause immune system responses as well as alterations in the nutritional status of the host. The possible effects of an infectious variable should not be ignored, therefore, when nutritional influences are being evaluated for their possible effects on immunological function. Available evidence suggest the existence of a complex three-sided interrelationship among infectious diseases, host nutritional status, and immune system competence. Under various investigational or clinical circumstances, these relationships can lead to either an enhanced host resistance against an infection or to an increase in host susceptibility. (Author)
