Comparison of Observed Data and GDEM/Standard Ocean Data. Part 1. Vertical Temperature, Salinity and Sound Speed Profiles at Six Selected Site Locations in the Mediterranean Sea

This report compares the results of the Generalized Digital Environmental Model (GDEM), developed by Dr. T. Davis of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NOO), with observed data from 69 vertical profiles of seasonally averaged temperature, salinity, and sound speed at six locations. The six sites, all located in the Mediterranean Sea, are the Alboran Sea, the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Balearic Sea, the Strait of Sicily, the Ionian Sea, and the Levantine Sea. Evaluations of GDEM-derived temperature, salinity, and sound speed profiles were performed, considering location, season, and individual parameters. (Author)
