Thickness-mode quartz resonators have long been used for timing and frequency control. It is well known that a change in temperature results in a change in the resonance frequencies of such quartz plates. Thus, a major requirement for precision frequency applications is that these temperature deviations are minimized. This report summarizes a detailed numerical investigation of the temperature sensitivity of doubly rotated quartz resonators. Various measures of sensitivity are used for the temperature range -40 to 80 C. Several cuts of quartz with stable temperature behavior are described and compared. (Author)
