Behaviour and Analysis of Mechanically Fastened Joints in Composite Structures

The rapidly increasing use of composite structures in NATO aerospace has intensified interest in methods of strength, and life analysis. At the same time, the introduction of new tough resins has increased the static strength of composite joints with implications for the corresponding strength in fatigue. A number of NATO nations have built up databases and developed methods for strength and life analyses; in order to take advantage of these resources the Structures and Materials Panel held a Specialists' Meeting, in conjunction with the 64th Panel Meeting, at Madrid, Spain on 27th - 29th April 1987, under the chairmanship of Professor Vittorio Giavotto, to provide a focus for methods of analysis and the identification of research needs.
