Chemical Modification of Poly(1-methyl-1-phenyl-1-sila-cis-pent-3-ene) byAddition of Dichloroketene

Dichloroketene (I) is known to react with the C-C double bonds of alkenes toyield 2,2-dichlorocyclobutanones via 2+2 cycloaddition reaction. The stereospecificity of the reaction results from a concerted reaction path. It has been generated by the homogeneous dehydrohalogenation dechlorination of trichloroacetyl chloride (II) with triethylamine as well as by the heterogeneous dechlorination of trichloroacetyl chloride (III) with zinc. Ultrasound has recently been shown to promote heterogeneous reactions with zinc.
