Deformation and Recrystallization of Nb-10 Si In-Situ Composite

摘要

Nb-10 a/o Si is a model material for ductile phase toughened in-situ composites.In the as-cast condition, the microstructure contains both the ductile metallic niobium phase and the continuous intermetallic Nb(3)Si phase. The microstructure of this in-situ composite can be tailored by thermomechanical processing (TMP). The changes in the morphology and spacing of the phases, and microstructural refinement following TMP, have been shown to improve the fracture toughness of the alloy, as compared to the as-cast material. Therefore, understanding of the deformation behavior and the mechanisms of recovery and recrystallization are of great importance in tailoring the microstructure of in-situ composites by TMP, which is the objective of the present paper.
