Egypt is investing in the upgrade of its ageing refining sector to meet growing domestic oil demand. State-owned EGPC last month agreed a $1.5bn contract for French engineering firm Technip to expand the 50,000 b/d Asyut refinery to maximise diesel production. And state-controlled refiner Midor signed a $1.4bn deal with Technip to increase capacity at the Midor refinery by 60,000 b/d to 160,000 b/d, expected for completion by 2018.
