Show cars, detailing and concours; it's an addictive world, and it's all too easy to get drawn into a place where just clean is nowhere near good enough. It can start innocently with, perhaps, a polished coolant reservoir and some braided hoses. You fit them under the bonnet and smile to yourself as the light bounces off them. But then you do a double take. The new parts now highlight the fact that everything else under there looks pretty naff, especially that grubby-looking brake master cylinder. This situation will never do! The next thing you know your toothbrush has no bristles left, and you have repetitive-strain injury from the frenetic polishing. Look what you have achieved though! A work of art, a masterpiece, it looks better than the day it rolled off the production line. But, it only looks good if you don't use it. If you want to use it, as well as show it, then be prepared for the worst. Stone chips are enough to turn you into a quivering wreck, and puddles are enough to drain the colour from your face, as a trip through the aforementioned puddle will result in hours of post-puddle cleaning.
