摘要

Numerous biological processes involve interactions of proteins with other molecules termed "ligands", which include peptides, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, steroids, vitamins, or even other proteins. Specific interactions between pairs of molecules are the basis for molecular recognition, which is crucial in signal transduction, gene transcription, immune response, or enzymatic regulation. Precise structural data on the bound complex are required to explore the conformation-activity relatiomship and are of critical importance for the field of drug design.
