Robotic underwater intervention covers a deceptively wide range of technologies, including underwater construction, inspection, search and recovery, salvage, benthic surveys, hydrographic surveys, metrology surveys, ordnance disposal, homeland security, underwater mining and inland infrastructure maintenance. For practical, engineering and commercial reasons, no single underwater vehicle can be employed to perform all of these tasks.
