摘要

The growing, interdisciplinary field of science studies—encompassing mainly history, philosophy, and sociology of science (HPSS)—has come to be recognized by science edu-cation researchers as a foundational knowledge base for the enterprise of science education. According to Derek Hodson, however, the core insights of science studies have had a min-imal impact on the practice of science teaching. Hodson is a seasoned science educator with substantial knowledge of the vast field of science studies. In this book, he builds a case for a much greater representation of HPSS in school science and seeks to provide a general guide—not a specific curricular or pedagogical prescription—for "teachers, teacher educators, curriculum developers, and science education policy makers" (p. ix).
