The paper discusses the influence of the operating conditions (hydrogen peroxide concentration -1 to 3%,sodium hydroxide concentration -1 to 3%,process temperature -90 to 110 deg C)applied in oxygen and ozone (ozone concentration -0.2 to 0.4%)bleaching of olive wood trimmings pulp on the properties of bleached pulps (kappa number,brightness and viscosity).A second central composite factor design was used to derive the equations that relate the dependent and the operating variables considered in bleaching.High sodium hydroxide (3%)and ozone concentration (0.4%),and intermediate or low values of hydrogen peroxide concentration (1-2%)and temperature (90-100 deg C)were required for suitable TCF bleaching of olive wood trimmings pulp.A comparison of two (i.e.,with and without hydrogen peroxide)selected bleaching sequences revealed similar values at higher kappa number,and similar brightness and viscosity values.
