Talisman ups Marcellus, Montney shale positions

Accelerating its positions in North American shales, Calgary-based Talisman Energy Inc. (Toronto, NYSE: TLM) has added more than 170,000 net acres in the Pennsylvania Marcellus and Montney shale plays for approximately US$570 million, most acquired since Sept. 30.The company has doubled its Tier 1 acreage position, which it defines as having an expected full-cycle breakeven of approximately $4 per Mcf, adding 90,000 acres in the Marcellus in Pennsylvania at a cost of approximately US$3,250 per acre. Talisman now holds some 180,000 net acres in the play with about 1,800 net drilling locations and will ramp up to six rigs from three by year-end.
