Lower demand, port closure hit US coal exports

US coal exports dropped to their lowest level in nine months in April under pressure from limited demand and shipping constraints caused by the Port of Baltimore's closure. A total of 6.84mn short tons (6.21mn metric tonnes) of coal was shipped out during the month, preliminary figures from the US Commerce Department show. That was nearly 1mn st less than revised April 2023 exports and the least since July 2023.
