FRANCES PRIEST: SURFACE AND SHAPE

Silence pervades this exhibition of new work by Frances Priest. Each piece commands its individual space with poise, inviting the viewer to discover its landscape of surface and form. Priest has exhibited widely internationally - exhibitions this year include SOFA in New York, Collect in London and Surface, Texture, Form with The British Crafts Council in Tokyo. Throughout her career she has pursued a very particular dialogue between simplicity and harmony, developing and refining her language through the exploration of ceramic marks upon the blank canvas of unglazed curved clay slabs. With this latest group of pieces a new richer vocabulary of surface qualities has been achieved. Through the relationship of two slabs, her sensitive line drawing and the textural surface, Priest now explores the three-dimensionality of her otherwise two-dimensional forms.
