The diamagnetic complexes [NiL](NO_3)_2 (I) and [NiL](ClO_4)_2 center dot 2H_2O (II) and paramagnetic complex CoL(NO_3)_2 center dot H_2O (III), where L is an optically active dioxatetraazamacrocyclic ligand based on a natural monoterpene, (+)-3-carene, were synthesized. According to X-ray diffraction, the structure of I is ionic. In the complex cation, the NiN_4 coordination core is a tetrahedrally distorted square formed through coordination of the tetradentate ring-forming ligand L. Complex II contains a similar coordination core. According to the data of UV and IR spectroscopy, the Co coordination polyhedron in III is a N_4O_2 octahedron.
