Those of you who regularly go to rock shows, as I do, know that every so of-ten something new and exciting hits the market. Despite the fact that mineral collecting has gone on for centuries, new and interesting minerals are still being found, as are extraordinary new deposits of familiar minerals. Recently in Brazil, a new strike of spessartine garnets was made. A couple of years ago, beautiful orange-red spessartine crystals began appearing on the market. As is often the case with important new finds, details about the locality were a bit confused, though the general area of the occurrence was known to be Minas Gerais. Recently, though, I was able to visit the mine that is producing these beauties and see for myself exactly where they come from and how they occur.
