If you weld a part, chances are you're going to coat it at some point, and that correlation is helping to drive more robotic coating business to robot makers and integrators. "Just about everything you weld, you coat, and that's driving a lot of business for us," said Carl Traynor, senior director of marketing for Motoman Inc. "We've seen a big push lately for customers who are doing more finishing of a product, rather than just welding it and shipping it. More and more, they're welding it, then coating it, then shipping it:' That's particularly true in the automotive industry, especially among tier suppliers, but the trend is also making its way into general industry as robot makers and integrators broaden their presence outside the auto industry.
