Global competition and technology continue to change the way companies do business. Companies must react quickly when challenges arise. In some cases, the solution for maintaining an edge on global competition lies with end effector technology End effectors were developed for automation applications to perform basic robotic applications such as gripping and handling. Traditional end effector construction consisted of components originally designed for workbenches and machine safety fencing. A large number of fasteners and stabilizing brackets were used to create the end effector's shape. Although this design proved to be inexpensive, the end effectors became loose when attached to advanced, multi-axis robots, resulting in cumbersome repair and unplanned downtime. An improved, modulator end effector design was desired by many users.
