ROADSIDE PANNING SITES IN UTAH/Part1: Cache, Emery, Garfield, Grand, Juab, and Millard Counties

This is the first in a series of two articles containing county-by-county maps to suggested panning and screening sites at Utah highway/stream crossings where appreciable finds have been previously reported in vicinity watersheds. The principles of erosion make it likely that minerals and gemstones have been deposited in river gravels, awaiting removal by a rockhound with a pan. By confining operations within government-purchased highway rights of way, panners are spared the necessity of locating and obtaining permission from adjoining property owners, including state and national parks and Indian reservations. However, readers run the risk of prosecution if they cross onto private land, whether purposely or inadvertently. In instances where rights of way have merely been leased, other rules may apply.
