Role of core-needle biopsy in thyroid nodules with initially nondiagnostic cytologic results

We read with interest the article by Dr Yeon and colleagues in the July 2013 issue of Radiology (1). In that study, there were 43 malignant nodules at core-needle biopsy (CNB). What is surprising was that only 32 of them underwent subsequent surgery. Moreover, the percentage undergoing surgery (74%, 32 of 43 nodules) was puzzling because all of the malignant nodules would be expected to undergo surgery.
