The co-curricular component of a complete education is important, as is the formal curricular component. Students in introductory radiation science courses learn new concepts about natural and man-made radiation, radiation measurement, biological effects of radiation, and short-term and long-term health effects of radiation. These introductory courses usually have no laboratory component or hands-on exercises that could enhance the learning of new concepts, so we introduced co-curricular activities in a radiation science course.
