Visiting a breeder:IKARASHI KOI FARM

The owner of tkarashi Koi Farm is Kazuto Ikarashi. Koi people call him Sen-nin-san affectionately. When we visited the koi farm in May, they were ready for the breeding season.Ikarashi Koi Farm, located in Yamakoshi, was founded in 1963. Gosanke has been their leading varieties since they set their hand to koi farming. Sen-nin-san said, "As there was little profit for the first and second year. Well, it's around 1965 that we could make a living by koi business. From the first I have been interestedin producing Gosanke. In particular, we put big effort into Sanke breeding. The bloodline was Sadazo in the beginning. Sanke is a difficult variety to produce plenty of quality koi. This may be an unfortunate reality for Sanke breeders. Sanke's most beautiful period are shorter than Kohaku's and Showa's. As a whole, Kohaku and Showa can make a larger amount of production on business. Actually, our customers wanted Kohaku and Showa as well. Besides Sadazo Sanke, we originally did Tomoin for Kohaku, and Kobayashi for Showa."
