INFLUENCE OF AN ENZYMATIC TREATMENT ON THE PULP OF CANARIUM SCHWEINFURTHII ENGL.ON EXTRACTION YIELD AND QUALITY OF THE OIL

The pulp of Canarium schweinfurthii Engl,underwent a cellulase (Celluclast~R) and protease (Protamex~R),(Novozymes,Bagsvaerd,DK) treatment before oil extraction.The extraction yield and quality of the oil were evaluated.There was a significative improvement in the yield (p<0,05),the cellulase pretreatment giving a better yield of 11% MS than the untreated samples.On the other hand the quality of the oil did not significantly alter (p<0,05) after the cellulase treatment,in fact there was a decrease in the peroxide index,and an increase in the stearic and oleic acids in the oil.
